NILS Tasmania, in partnership with Aurora Energy and the Tasmanian Government, has expanded its energy-efficiency subsidies to help Tasmanian households access more efficient appliances.

Current subsidies:

• Heat pumps: 50% subsidy, up to $1,500 (minimum 2.5 Star Rating).
• Washing machines, fridges, freezers and heat-pump dryers: 50% subsidy, up to $500 per item (minimum 3 Star Energy Rating).

No special application is required, the subsidy is applied as part of the normal Essentials loan process.

Important things to understand:

• This subsidy is only offered as part of the normal loan process; therefore you must first be eligible for a Nils Tasmania Essentials Loan and be successful with your application before the subsidy would apply.
• Multiple items: Up to two subsidised items can be included in one loan, with the subsidy applied to each eligible item.
• The same whitegoods item cannot receive another subsidy within 3 years.
• A Heat pump subsidy is limited to once per household, although exceptional circumstances may be considered case-by-case.

Examples:
A successful application for a fridge for $1200, would receive the maximum $500 subsidy funding, and the remaining $700 balance will be paid from the new NILS loan.

A $3,200 heat pump would receive a $1,500 subsidy, leaving $1,700 for the applicant to be covered through the normal NILS Essential loan limit.
