Please be aware that NILS Tasmania does not provide cash loans for essentials. > Can NILS provide loans for pensioners? NILS Essentials Loans are the best loan option for pensioners and low-income Tasmanians seeking no-interest loans for household and medical essentials. For example, if you need medical or dental loans, have bad credit and are on a pension, NILS can help with a no interest loan of up to $2,000. We’ll pay for the services, and you’ll be able to pay us back in small amounts. NILS can provide no interest loans to pensioners if it falls under the “essentials” category. The property must be your principal place of residence. > What is a NILS Essentials Loan? A NILS essentials loan is an interest free loan of up to *$2000 for essential household items, goods and services. Yes, but please try other services such as Housing Connect first to see if you qualify for assistance via state government funding. We don't want you to take out a loan when you might not need to. Please contact Housing Connect on 1800 800 588 to see if you qualify. > Are there NILS loans for cars? Yes, however this program is in high demand and there can be up to a week wait time. Also note that you cannot put an enquiry or application in via this website, you will need to contact 1300 301 650 to make your initial enquiry.
> How long can you take to repay NILS? It depends on the loan you take out. It could range from 12-24 months. > Can I take out a NILS loan for mobile phones? Yes you can! Phones are considered an essential item. NILS can offer small interest free loans so you can purchase a new mobile phone outright. If your current phone needs replacing, don’t use fast cash loans or a payment plan, contact us first and see if you apply for our essential no interest loans. > Can NILS pay for my removalists? Yes they can. > Does NILS do a credit check? There is no credit check in Tasmania for a NILS Essential loan. Your credit history doesn’t stop you from accessing our NILS no interest loans for essential items or services. You will only be asked for a credit check if purchasing a second-hand car with our no interest car loans. > How does NILS assist family violence victims? NILS Tasmania offers family violence support through our no interest loans for essential products and services for those dealing with family violence. This includes paying for services like removal costs and items like security equipment. With a NILS loan there is no interest, no charges or fees, and no credit checks. You only pay for what you borrowed. Don’t use fast cash loans, rent to keep or rent to own schemes! Please note, NILS loans cannot be used to purchase second hand furniture. > Can I get a NILS loan if on Centrelink? Yes, NILS offers fair loans for Centrelink customers. We often help people on Centrelink with our no interest loans for essential items, including household furniture and appliances. Even if you have bad credit, you can get a NILS loan while on Centrelink. To get a NILS loan while on Centrelink, the only requirements are:

MicroBusiness Loan |
> What is a NILS MicroBusiness Loan? A MicroBusiness Loan is to assist people to either help start up a new business or help grow an existing business. This loan is not subject to any credit checks. The maximum loan amount is $3,000. A special exception top up loan up to $1500 may be available to clients on application. These are only available in certain circumstance and only one half of the original loan amount is paid down. > What are the fees and charges? There are no fees, charges or interest. You only repay what you borrow. > What are the repayments and how long is the loan for? The repayments on a $3,000 loan is $60 per fortnight over approximately 24 months. We can either set up the repayments through Centrepay deduction or you can set up a direct debit through your bank institution. > How do I qualify to apply for a loan? To qualify you need a current healthcare, pension, DVA or low income card. Or you need to have a gross income of $55,000 or less.
