A small NILS loan can make a difference if you are subjected to Family Violence

NILS (No Interest Loans) Tasmania helps low income Tasmanians with loans for essential items and services.

NILS is a non-profit service supported by state and federal governments.

‘Jenny’s’ ex-husband left her when she was pregnant with her third child.

The violence started soon after her first child was born, with a frightened Jenny regularly calling the police and taking out intervention orders against him.

While it was a relief he had left, Jenny had no access to the bank accounts and no job.

Her husband took many of their shared possessions with him and she had minimal funds to replace things like the television and the washing machine.

Over the years now, Jenny has accessed five NILS loans of up to $1500 to pay for items like the washing machine, car repairs and medical expenses.

Without NILS Jenny would have been forced to borrow money from places like Cash Converters at 40% interest, or ‘rent-to-buy’ stuff at exorbitant cost from companies like Radio Rentals.

NILS can also help with loans for removal costs and storage, security doors and screens, car registration, dental costs and many other purposes.
